Barot Proud that Preserve at Oslo Introduces Food Drive

The Preserve at Oslo property management team joined forces with The Indian River County Housing Authority and local retailers to launch a sustainable, community-wide food drive.  Starting in February of 2014, the program was created specifically to help low income families that are hungry and in need.  The program now offers residents of the Vero Beach, Florida the opportunity to visit the Preserve at Oslo clubhouse twice per week and pick up food and drink items all at no cost.

Key contributors to the food drive include Publix, Wal-Mart, and Winn-Dixie.  Over 500 pounds of food and drinks are collected and distributed per week.  That equates to 1 ton of food per month and feeds over 100 families in need.

“We see good people facing difficult circumstances every day.  And we strive to help our residents on a daily basis. However we believe that as a corporate citizen, it is also our job to make a positive impact in the community we serve“ said Chris Zrowka, regional manager.  He continues “Partnering with the Indian River County Housing Authority and generous local retailers has given us all an organized platform to extend our reach and give back in a meaningful way.”

A key enabler to the program is the Indian River County Housing Authority (IRCHA). Founded in 1979, their primary mission is to preserve and increase available safe and sanitary housing to low and moderate income persons within Indian River County.  According to the latest Census, the city of Vero Beach, Florida boasts employment rates that are 28% higher than the national average.  Additionally, the city has more people living below the poverty level compared to the state of Florida as a whole.

“Our properties, like The Preserve at Oslo, strive to provide the best accommodations for our residents including value added service and amenities,” said Dilip Barot, Founder of Creative Choice Group.  He continued “The fact that we have been able to host this food program on-site to feed the hungry and create a stronger sense of community in Vero Beach, Florida makes me very proud.  It just goes to show that the collective impact of small gestures can make a big difference. We have collected six tons of food in six months. We are off to a good start!”

The food drive campaign will continue to operate throughout 2014.  Business owners in the local community that wish to make a difference and get involved are encouraged to reach out to the Indian River County Housing Authority at http://www.indianrivercountyha.com/indianriver/.
